Stove Certification Program

 



REQUIREMENTS

 

  1. Read "How To Use Lightweight Stoves" in the Boy Scout Handbook (p 253). Discuss what you have read with your counselor.
     

  2. Read "Stove Safety Rules" in the Boy Scout Handbook (p. 254-255). Discuss each rule with your counselor.
     

  3. Explain the safe operation of your stove and it's maintenance to your counselor.
     

  4. Explain what type of fuel your stove uses and how to store it safely.
     

  5. Explain how to safely light your stove.
     

  6. Demonstrate how to setup your stove to cook. Explain your cooking area and why you chose this location.
     

  7. Demonstrate how to properly light, and then extinguish your stove. Explain the steps involved.
     

  8. Cook a one-pot meal approved by your counselor in advance, on your stove. Explain why you chose your cooking pot or pan. Explain the steps you must take to prepare the meal.
     

  9. Eat the one-pot meal you have cooked on your stove. You may share this meal with others.
     

  10. Properly clean-up your stove, cooking area and equipment. Explain why this is important.
     

  11. Demonstrate how to pack your stove and fuel in your backpack. Explain why you chose that location in your pack.
