Friday April 12 through Sunday April 14th - NEW YORK CITY camp out - We will leave at 6:00 on Friday Night and return Sunday night at about 5:00. IF YOU HAVE NOT SIGNED UP ON THE TROOP WEBSITE PLEASE DO.

the cost of the trip will be between $26 and $42 for those 13 and under and then between $35 and $51 for those over 13 including adults. We will not not the final costs until after the trip, so we will wait to collect money and let you know the correct amount after the trip.

It’s about a 2 hour drive from home to the camp, assuming traffic is OK. So we will meet at the church by 6:00, we should get to the camp in the 8:30 – 9:00 time frame.

As far as Saturday, it will take about an hour to get from the camp to the museum. The museum hours are 10:00 AM to 5:45 PM, and I would plan on spending the full day there. Lets plan on leaving the camp at 8:30 on Saturday and barring any transportation delays, we’ll be there by 10.

At the museum, we have 4 ticketed events:

Planetarium Show – Dark Universe at 11:00 AM (First Floor)

Special Exhibition – Unseen Oceans at 1:30 PM (Fourth Floor)

3D Movie – Backyard Wilderness at 2:30 PM (First Floor)

The Butterfly Conservatory at 3:30 PM (Second Floor)

We should be at each ticketed event 15 minutes prior to our scheduled time. We will need to go straight from Backyard Wilderness to the Butterfly Conservatory, so we can do that as one large group.

For lunch, there is a food court on the lower level, and it would probably be a good idea to head there after the planetarium show. Remember, it’s New York City, so the prices will be higher than what we pay at home. The museum web site is www.amnh.org, and we should encourage the boys to check it out before the trip, and download a museum map if they want to. The museum also has an Explorer App that they can download onto their cell phones if we are letting the boys bring them.

It’s going to be a long day, so we will find a pizza place that we can either stop at and eat when we get back to the cars, or pick up pies to bring back to camp and eat there.

On Sunday, we need to be at the ferry terminal at Liberty State Park by 10:00 AM. It’s about a 45 minute trip, so lets plan on leaving camp by 8:30 AM. There will be an airport style pre check before we get on the boat.  Everyone will need to leave their belongings in the cars. The ferry will stop at Ellis Island first, then Liberty Island, and then back to Liberty State Park, so we’ll need to visit the attractions in that order. Ferries leave each stop every 40 minutes.

There are eating options at both places, and again, it’s New York City, so the prices will be higher than what we pay at home. The Statue of Liberty web site is https://www.nps.gov/stli/index.htm, and Ellis Island is https://www.nps.gov/elis/index.htm. Again, the boys should check these out before the trip.
