Scoutmaster's Message on Meetings & Coronavirus

posted Mar 20, 2020, 7:33 AM by Troop 39 Marlborough
The committee and I have decided that we need to follow the example set by the schools and directives published by the Governor and cancel our meetings until after March 31st. At that time, we will re-assess and determine how to continue.

Our next Campout is the White Water trip and is scheduled for April 24, 25, and 26. Sign up for this trip is active at the troop website (www.ct-troop39.org)

Scouting for Food bag delivery, currently scheduled for March 28th will also be postponed until this health scare is over)

There are several things that scouts can do with you free time to help with Advancement. If each Scout would commit to spending 1 or 2 hours a day (1 hour in the morning and 1 hour at night) on scouts, we would come out of this Coronavirus event with huge numbers of requirements having been completed.

1) Work on Merit Badge Partials that may be needed for the next rank advancement (this one is especially prudent to at least a couple scouts I know.... no names here, but you know who you are)

2) Begin a new merit badge that can be done at home. Examples: (Any of the Citizenship merit badges; Family Life, Personal Management; Personal Fitness, and many others) If you choose to start a merit Badge you     must first email me (Mr. Steinbrecher) with your intent. I will authorize and provide you the name of a merit badge Councillor. You would then need to print out the work book and contact the merit badge Councillor.     Workbooks can be found on line by Googling the name of the merit badge. They are free and make the Merit Badge work much easier.
3) Individuals or small groups can make appointments with Me (Mr. Steinbrecher) to meet and review requirements that you have studied and prepped for. if a meeting is set up there would need to be a second adult which     could be your parent, or another scout leader.

Several of us have online meeting software that can be used to have an online meeting.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments with the information provided.
